Riley steps up at Yahoo

28/11/2008

Rich Riley is to take charge of Yahoo's European and Canadian operations following the resignation of Toby Coppel.

Former Log-Me-On.com entrepreneur Mr Riley, who is currently in charge of Yahoo's European advertiser and publisher group, will take up his post early next year.

Mr Coppel will stay on for a transitional period, likely to last until spring 2009.

Yahoo's president Sue Decker predicted the change would be a positive development.

"The appointment of Rich Riley represents the next phase in the evolution of our European and Canadian businesses, enabling us to build on the great foundations laid by Toby Coppel," she said.

Yahoo has made the headlines on numerous occasions in recent weeks, but rarely for the right reasons.

It has seen its chief executive Jerry Yang announce his departure and also been forced to offload European ecommerce business Kelkoo, reportedly for less than a quarter of the price paid for it.
