Google tops search engine rankings

Industry analyst comScore has released its US search engine rankings in October 2008.
The report placed Google at the top of the leaderboard, recording 63.1 per cent of all searches, which equates to 10.8 billion - news that may be of interest to search engine optimisation (SEO) professionals.
The number of searches made on Google represents a six per cent increase on the figures from September.
Yahoo came in second with 20.5 per cent and Microsoft was placed third after recording 8.5 per cent of the searches.
Ask claimed fourth place, with 4.2 per cent of online searches performed through its search engine.
Both Google and Yahoo improved their market share compared with the month before, whereas Microsoft remained the same and Ask saw a decline of by 0.1 per cent.
AOL's search engine experienced the biggest fall in use out of the top five search engines, with the number of its users dropping from 4.1 per cent to 3.7 per cent.
