Maximise SEO with 'good domain names'
27/11/2008
Companies looking to improve their search engine optimisation (SEO) performance have been advised to acquire a relevant domain name.
According to Liam Scanlan, founder of SiteLeads.net, the optimum domain name is one that relates directly to the product being sold.
He said: "If you are selling handmade dolls online, but your domain is acmeproducts.com, that doesn't help the search engine."
In an article for Entrepreneur magazine, Mr Scanlan noted that it is possible to register multiple domains.
He said that best practice is to buy a variety of domains and link them to the main website.
This means that search engines will not overlook a site with numerous domains leading directly to it.
Companies should make contact details easily accessible on their websites, Mr Scanlan recommended.
When planning web design, some companies use a graphic for details, but Mr Scanlan said it is better to install an email hotlink.
In related news, Frank Reed of WebProNews, recently said that changing titles and meta descriptions are simple ways to improve an SEO campaign.
