SEO 'is not influenced by PPC'

25/11/2008

An expert in the search engine optimisation (SEO) sector has refuted the notion that it can be affected by a pay-per-click (PPC) campaign.

Kevin Gibbons, director of search at SEOptimise, said it is not true to say that a website will not be ranked highly in search engines without PPC.

Speaking to E-Consultancy, he dismissed this suggestion as an "annoying myth", although he conceded that he can see how these rumours and beliefs have come about.

He commented: "I suppose it makes some sense to think that a major search engine may want to help its paying customers in other ways."

Mr Gibbons added that it is also a myth to suggest that paid ads distract from organic SEO, as this is not the case.

This comes after Wister Walcott of Marin Software praised PPC campaigns for giving companies the chance to see how well their strategy is proceeding.

He told InternetRetailer.com that businesses can measure their return on investment with pinpoint accuracy.ADNFCR-1679-ID-18894738-ADNFCR
