Microsoft may rebrand Live Search

24/11/2008

Computing giant Microsoft is rumoured to be relaunching Windows Live Search with a new brand name - news that may be of interest to those involved in search engine optimisation.

The company has taken over the domain name Kumo.com and is currently directing internal traffic to its test site.

TechCrunch recently cited a source within the company who said few people know what the new name will be, adding that it could still change.

Consequently, it is uncertain whether Kumo.com will be the new name of the search engine, although it is a strong possibility.

The search engine seems to be a major concern for Microsoft at present.

It recently hired Yahoo's search executive Sean Suchter to be general manager of Microsoft's Silicon Valley Search Technology Centre and is said to be "working on Live Search".

Microsoft was recently linked to Yahoo in a takeover deal after fellow search engine market leaders Google pulled out.
