UK ecommerce sales grew by 30 per cent in 2007

A recent study has found that the number of sales made on the internet by UK businesses rose by 30 per cent in 2007.
According to the Office for National Statistics' ecommerce Survey of Business, the value of online sales grew to £167 billion last year, an increase of more than 30 per cent on the £125 billion spent in 2006.
Some 30 per cent of the value of all purchases in the non-financial sector was made over the internet or through other information and communication technologies (ICTs).
Close to 40 per cent of the value of purchases made through ICTs came through internet transactions, up five per cent on the previous year.
Around seven out of ten businesses had online representation through their website.
In the third quarter of 2008, the overall growth of ecommerce in the US came to six per cent, according to comScore.
On average the industry has grown by ten per cent in each quarter of 2008.
