Web accounts for one-fifth of ad revenue

A recent Ofcom report has found that the internet accounts for one-fifth of the total ad revenue spent in the UK - news that might be of interest to people in search marketing.
This was found to be the highest proportion of advertising revenue spent online out of all the countries surveyed.
The figure is up by a third compared with the statistics compiled in 2006.
Sweden was shown to have the second highest percentage of advertising revenue spent on the internet through search marketing, search engine optimisation and other strategies.
Tips on search engine optimisation compiled by FundFindr.tv suggested that web design professionals should ensure that page titles and internal link structures are optimised for search.
It added that external linking must be used "wisely", with links to the top sites provided.
Experts should also check for common mistakes and penalties, such as broken links.
Optimising the 404 page was also recommended as doing so may make it rank in search engine results.
