Search engine marketers 'need to avoid duplicating content'

An expert highlighting some of the potential errors people in the search marketing industry make identified duplicating content as a common practice.
Carrie Hill noted in an article on SearchEngineWatch.com that many websites have the same page titles appearing throughout.
She said that this problem is often "created innocently", for example, when firms repeat the brand name.
Ms Hill identified sites with limited amounts of supporting text as an example of where this practice is often found.
Failing to vary titles sufficiently can give search engines the "wrong impression" about a site and could result in businesses missing a "key opportunity", Ms Hill added.
A site with sufficiently varied content is more likely to perform well in search engine rankings because the search engine optimisation is more efficiently carried out.
In related news, Mike Grehan from the ClickZ Network recently said that search engine optimisation is the first stage of creating a successful online business, noting that once a firm has some visibility, "consumer power kicks in".
