Recent research has predicted that four out of ten UK residents will be looking to save money on presents by purchasing gifts on the internet.
The study conducted by Twenga revealed that ecommerce could become more popular than high street shopping during the credit crunch as people look for the cheapest options when shopping.
Consequently it might be advisable for ecommerce firms to ensure that their online presence is at its strongest, whether this is through search engine optimisation or other advertising methods.
Despite half of the UK planning to spend less, the country is still likely to be the largest spenders in Europe during the upcoming holiday period.
A further 81 per cent said that they plan to compare prices on the internet before committing to any purchase.
AppLabs conducted a survey of companies to see what impact a website crash would have on their company and it found that 40 per cent thought that it would have an effect on the overall business, reports ITWorld.
