Google searches rocket in September

Google has experienced a 21 per cent growth in the month of September on a year-on-year basis.

It topped the rankings for most used search engines, with 4.8 million people using the site compared with 1.4 million who chose Yahoo, according to figures from Nielsen Online.

Despite still being behind Google, Yahoo managed to boost the number of searches using its engine by 1.5 per cent.

The total overall growth throughout the year for all searches rose by 9.4 per cent, with Google making up 59.7 per cent of this.

After the recent revamp of the site, Ask.com also experienced a period of growth with the number of searches up by 12.1 per cent.

Firms who found their services used less in September included AOL and Comcast.

AOL Searches declined by 24.6 per cent while Comcast Search was down by 13.1 per cent.

In related news, Google's video sharing site YouTube recently unveiled its ecommerce platform in conjunction with Amazon and iTunes.
