'Consistency is key to good web design'

Experts in the web design industry have stated that one of the keys to a good website is ensuring that it is consistent.

According to netmag.co.uk, it is no longer possible to get away with layouts that contain a colour palette, which is too varied and poorly thought out.

Eugene Reisch, senior art director at Digital Outlook, commented: "People need to know where they stand, and clear differentiation between elements is vital."

He stated that if the elements of the web design are laid out inconsistently then the end result will be clumsy and tough to use.

The advice he gives is to keep it simple and to ensure that, for example, if the buttons are round, they are round throughout the website.

Using a large number of different button styles, fonts or colours can make the website "look like a jumble sale", he noted.

This comes after design professionals at SmartWebby.com stated that easy navigation and a clean layout design were crucial for effective web design.
