Recent figures have revealed that Google was the most visited US site through the month of September.
According to data collated by comScore, Google had a total of 144 million unique visitors in the ninth month of the year.
It was followed in the rankings by Yahoo, which had over 141 million people visiting the site, with Microsoft some way behind the top two with 122.3 million.
The final two spots in the top five were occupied by AOL LLC and Fox Interactive Media with 108 million and 87 million respectively.
Wikimedia Foundation sites pushed their way to eighth place after increasing its number of visitors to 60.2 million.
Glam Media had one of the most impressive boosts in popularity, moving up four places to break into the top ten with 52.3 million.
The sustained popularity of Google is likely to be of interest to those involved in search engine optimisation (SEO) as it is the most used search engine.
According to the Nova Scotia Business Journal, companies should work on their SEO and PPC performance first and then move onto the web design.
