Experts in the sector have recommended that those working out an online marketing strategy include pay per click (PPC) as well as search engine optimisation (SEO).
According to Charu Kishnani of Girnasoft, PPC allows marketers to ensure that more users reach the landing page and usually shows "instantaneous" results.
SEO is also an effective way form of online advertising as it enables company's to maximise their online presence and rank higher in the search engine rankings.
However, this is a long-term strategy and results are usually not seen for a while.
Consequently having a balanced plan that involves both forms of marketing could be the best tactic.
Mr Kishnani, commented: "Many Professional SEO service providers will suggest both. With a short PPC campaign, mixed with a long-term SEO campaign, you'll have the highest ROI and optimal visitor/conversion rates.
In related news, Google's AnalyticsBlog notes that the holiday season is one of the most profitable for ecommerce sites. Consequently, now may be the best time to re-evaluate marketing strategies.
