'Uploading videos is better for SEO than embedding'
17/10/2008
When considering incorporating video into web design, firms should upload their own videos rather than embedding them, it has been claimed.
Nick Stamoulis of SearchEngineOptimizationJournal.com explains that putting these files on YouTube and embedding them does not yield that same search engine optimisation (SEO) benefits as uploading them.
This is because the files will reside on a different server and consequently will not be crawled by search engines.
Mr Stamoulis commented: "For SEO, it is better to actually upload the video to your own website and allow other webmasters to embed the video on their sites from yours."
He added that even if it properly tagged, video files will benefit the site that has them uploaded rather than embedded.
In related news, Reuters recently reported that YouTube advertising will boost Google by 2011.
This comes after the video hosting site started to use four new ad formats, including a full-length video pact.
