'Choose a keyword rich domain name'

16/10/2008

Firms looking to create a search engine friendly web design should ensure that they find a domain name that is keyword-rich, it has been claimed.

According to Website Programme Development, (WPD) companies should look into what keywords will draw consumers or other businesses to their site.

Having a website name that is no more than 65 characters is also advisable because search engines may drop some if the name is too long.

WPD noted that it is crucial for firms to have solid web design and keywords in the URL to make it possible for clients to identify the nature of the business.

In related news, Bryan Howe of Masterplans.com cited the example of a company called MP:Creative who recently rose to the top of Yahoo's rankings in the space of a few months.

He said that this is partly because they chose a domain name made up of three of the most popular keywords for its particular business.
