Internet is the only marketing channel with increased budget

14/10/2008

A recent survey has found that the internet is the only channel to see an increase in budget in the third quarter of 2008.

According to the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising's (IPA) latest Bellwether report, marketing budgets were down in nearly all sectors.

The only area that saw an increase in the amount spent on advertising was internet marketing, such as search engine optimisation (SEO).

Internet search in particular was the area in which firms added to the amount they were spending to boost the profile of their businesses.

Other online categories generally held steady in the budgets allocated to them by companies.

In related news, a survey of US firms conducted by SLI Systems found that SEO, search marketing and email marketing were the top three tools used by ecommerce sites.

The reports revealed that 87 per cent of retailers utilise these forms of advertising and marketing in their businesses.

Only 47 per cent are currently using social media tools and 32 per cent employ online video on their websites.
