Hakia revamps search engine

08/10/2008

Those involved in search engine optimisation may be interested to know that Hakia has revamped its interface.

Rather than displaying "ten blue links" as is standard with crawlers such as Google, the new system gives results in tabbed format.

The first set of results displays all relevant results found while the rest break them down according to credible sites, news, images and a "meet others" tab to allow access to the engine's social networking facilities.

Adverts are in a separate column on the right hand side of the screen in a bid to "reduce clutter".

Hakia's new web design also allows users to verify the credibility of some of the pages, because while some sites are popular, they may be unreliable and vice versa.

This has already been applied to medical sites and searches, with a number of pages receiving stamps of credibility after being checked by the Medical Library Association.

In related news, Ask.com recently updated its search system in a bid to catch up with market leaders Google and Yahoo!.
