Quality content 'is crucial'

Businesses looking to boost their popularity and rankings should ensure that they have a high quality of content on their site, it has been claimed.
While volume can help with search engine optimisation (SEO), Graham Jones says in an article on itnewsafrica.com that creating a useful or enjoyable site that people want to visit is equally important.
He cites the recent purchase of a blog called Bankaholic for over $12.4 million (£7.15 million) as evidence of this, noting that the only thing purchased was the content.
In addition to this, Mr Jones point to the Starbucks website, which is popular with consumers and ranks second in the Google rankings when coffee is typed in.
Despite this, he says that the site should be impenetrable to SEO due to the high levels of flash content.
However, it has over 350,000 links to it because people like the site and their webpages regularly contain the word coffee.
In related news, a poll of US retailers recently found that SEO is considered one of the most important strategies in e-commerce.
