Social networking site MySpace has launched its new music initiative which it hopes can provide an alternative way to acquire music online.
According to Adweek.com, 120 million users willl be able to stream songs for free, build their own playlists and buy tracks from Amazon.
In addition, ringtones, concert tickets and merchandise are also to be available.
Amit Kapur, chief operating officer at MySpace, commented: "In order to really meet the needs of users, you need to unlock the content."
"The only way you'll solve that is having a free, ad-supported environment," he added.
Those interested in web design or pay per click advertising may be interested to know that Mr Kapur believes that "there's no question" that advertising will be of paramount importance in the new service.
Deals have been formed between MySpace and major music labels such as Sony BMG, Universal Music Group or EMI.
In related news, while Facebook continues to grow, Hitwise recently reported that MySpace is still the dominant social networking site.
