An expert in search engine optimisation (SEO) has noted that web design is also an important feature in attracting customers.

Rand Fishkin, of SEOmoz, noted that the firms looking to attract the custom of other businesses will benefit from a good website, reports Forbes.com.

The reason for this is that the homepage will often be the first port of call for other companies, even if it is just to get contact details.

Mr Fishkin commented: "For many businesses, a website is the first way that your clientele will look at you - even if it's just to find your address and phone number."

"The quality of your site is often a measure of the quality of your business."

Melanie Lindner at Forbes.com say that while it may be advisable to get professionals to programme the site, it could be a wise move to have some level of input in the aesthetic web design.

Experts at Practicalecommerce.com said that companies looking to take advantage of the opportunities afforded during the Christmas season should link advertisements to specific landing pages.
