Financial problems dominate top search list

The top ten most popular search terms rankings in the past week was dominated by credit crunch related phrases.

Only three other searches made it into the list, with Ryder Cup getting the top spot with Moto GP and Bloomberg also featuring, reports Hitwise.

The remaining seven places were taken up by searches for banking and finance phrases, with HBOS and HBOS share price taking second and fourth place respectively.

Many people were also checking the FTSE 100 share index, as two search terms featuring FTSE appear at eighth and ninth.

Struggling bank Northern Rock and recently bailed out insurance company AIG were also of great interest to those surfing the web.

Yahoo! Finance UK experienced a massive hike in visits in the past week, with 48 per cent more people visiting in the past seven days than in the week previous.

In related news, Yahoo! has formed a digital advisory council to encourage greater communication and discussion with advertisers on open marketplaces.
