Mobile version of visual search engine launched

19/09/2008

SearchMe has unveiled a new mobile version of its site at the Mobilze conference in San Francisco, which is news that may be of interest to those involved in search engine marketing.

The web design of the visual search engine is inspired by iTunes' Cover flow, allowing surfers to look at a preview of the page before it is opened, reports Search Engine Land.

Each search yields a thumbnail image of the site as well as a URL, an option which the firm hopes will be a useful presentation method for smartphones with large screens.

It is thought that SearchMe will soon be releasing a version of the browser that can be used on an iPhone.

Greg Sterling at Search Engine Land believes that while there could be a market for this display style, the company still has to "overcome the 'brand equity' momentum of desktop search providers".

In related news, Google has announced that it will not delay the Yahoo! adwords search deal much longer, the chief executive of the company saying that "time is money in our business".
