Amazon branches out into file-shipping
19/09/2008
Amazon.com recently revealed that it will be branching out into the file-shipping industry.
The New York Times reports that the firm is to offer a content management system for companies so that they can sell MP3's and software through its website.
Businesses using its new content delivery service will be charged on a pay-per-use basis.
Consequently, firms will be able to pay for the space used rather than being required to purchase an entire storage system.
Adam Selipsky, a vice president with Amazon Web Services, commented: "This makes sense for popular content that may be accessed many times."
The ecommerce website has not yet revealed the pricing system for its new service.
It is thought that Amazon plans to have its service ready for use by the end of 2008.
In related news, Amazon has just opened 500 "stores", or online pages, which are dedicated to television shows.
The company has announced that users will be able to pay for a season pass allowing them to view each episode of their favourite shows, according to a blog on Seattlepi.com.
