Top PPC term is eBay

The top pay per click (PPC) term in the US in August 2008 was eBay, according to recently released figures.
Research conducted by Hitwise found that the online auction site received 0.12 per cent of paid clicks among all websites.
The company also managed to take second place in the rankings, with ebay.com getting 0.02 per cent of the total share.
Among organic search terms, MySpace ranked number one with 0.78 per cent of the clicks. MySpace.com also featured in the top five with 0.29 per cent. It came placed third behind craigslist in second.
The figures were based on a sample taken by the Experian company of ten million US internet users in the four-week period ending August 30th.
Anita Gandhi, director of client intelligence at Hitwise, commented: "The eBay website is capturing over 88 percent of the online traffic generated by paid listings on the variations of the term 'ebay'.
"This illustrates a keen understanding of the value of buying brand terms."
In related news, eBay recently called on the European Union to launch an investigation into firms that prevent sellers from offering their products on the ecommerce platform, reports the Financial Times.
