Google Sites top the rankings

The internet traffic figures for August show that Google remains the leader ahead of Yahoo! and Microsoft in second and third respectively.

Statistics published by comScore show that Google Sites were reached by 144.7 million Americans last month, while its closest rival Yahoo! was at 141.5 million.

Microsoft was even further off the pace with 123.5 million people accessing its sites in the summer month.

The top 50 list was broken in to by NBC Universal at number 50, while Answers.com claimed the 45th spot and ABC owned site placed at 47th.

ESPN rose by seven places to 36th position due to the start of the American football season.

In the preceding month, the gap between the top two companies was tighter with Google on 141.6 million and Yahoo! close behind on 140.3 million.

In the top 50 ad focus rankings that month, Platform-A claimed the top spot, reaching 90 per cent of the American public who go online.
