Online advertising set to boom

16/09/2008

Experts in the sector have stated that companies are likely to significantly increase the amount spent on internet advertising in the next year.

According to the European Interactive Advertising Association (EIAA), a growth of 16 per cent is expected, while 31 per cent of advertisers claim that the usefulness of television advertising is falling, reports uTalkMarketing.com.

Almost one in four advertisers believe that for ecommerce sites and high street retailers, using the internet to advertise is essential.

Influencing purchasing decisions was also seen as an important role of the advertising and search marketing on the internet.

Alison Fennah, executive of the EIAA, commented: "Advertisers in Europe are … starting to realise the economic and operational benefits that are offered through the adoption of pan-regional online strategies."

In related news, Yahoo! and Microsoft have recently been trying to gain ground on market leader Google through flashy online adverts, according to the Wall Street Journal.
