The phrase "large hardron collider" was the one of five related terms to appear in the UK top search terms last week.
Both "big bang" and "black hole" were also popular searches, ranked at five and nine respectively, reports HitWise.com.
There were three variations on the "large hadron collider" which took the top spot ahead of "Hurricane Ike" as the runner up.
Sports terms were also phrases that featured highly, with tennis ace Andy Murray coming in at number eight and "tour of Britain" appearing at six.
In related news, an expert in search engine optimisation has recently said that using video can sometimes be a very effective way to market products, particularly when there is a sudden demand for information.
Eric Papczun of DoubleClick Performics pointed to the political campaign for presidency as a good example of how this works.
He said that video files are wanted by the public and are consequently being used by campaigners to get the messages of the candidates into the public domain.
