Planning 'important' for Xmas e-commerce
01/09/2008
Internet retailers have been urged to consider planning well ahead for the Christmas period when engaging in e-commerce web design.
Organisations should ideally begin their preparations in September or October, taking into account whether vital online procedures such as checkout and adding items to the shopping cart are adequately backed up, Verizon Business said.
Furthermore, it is crucial to mark the busiest dates in a calendar and conduct rigorous monitoring processes to keep website availability high throughout, the company asserted.
Retailers should also ensure they keep security in mind and seek to protect legacy programs and sensitive consumer data stored in log files, it stated.
"Hackers frequently target retailers, looking to capitalise on the wealth of consumer and identity-related information that retailers store," Verizon Business explained.
More than £4.8 billion was spent online by British consumers during July, according to figures from the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index.
