Google accounted for over 70 per cent of the US search market in July, according to new figures from Hitwise.
In news that may be of relevance to the search optimisation sector, the research company released statistics showing that Google saw 70.77 per cent of all online searches in the US take place on its site.
This represented a ten per increase compared with July 2007 and a two per cent rise over June 2008, Heather Dougherty of Hitwise noted in her blog.
Yahoo! took an 18.65 per cent slice of the market, followed by MSN Search and Ask with 5.36 per cent and 3.53 per cent respectively.
"Looking back over the past 13 months, in addition to the growing share of searches, traffic to Google has continued to increase," Ms Dougherty remarked.
"The market share of visits to Google in July increased 25 per cent over July 2007 and has grown each month since January in 2008."
Figures from comScore for the UK search market show that Google had a 75.3 per cent share of the sector in June.
