Retailers 'could successfully battle credit crunch online'

Retailers could grow their sales in the face of the current economic downturn by branching out into internet-based operations, it has been claimed.

According to Neil Munroe of Equifax, a credit report service, larger retailers could particularly benefit from setting up a website dedicated to online sales.

He explained that these retailers could see significant advantages from expanding into the online space as the web is seen as a cost-effective sales environment with relatively low margins.

Furthermore, those seeking to capitalise on the growing popularity of internet shopping may be able to make use of advice offered by E-consultancy's Graham Charlton on effective e-commerce website design.

He said that enhancing the user experience is the most important aspect of setting up a new website, stating: "Things that take too long can put people off, so in terms of payment, having a long checkout form ... can put people off. Keep it relatively simple."ADNFCR-1679-ID-18709668-ADNFCR
