Google offers website optimisation advice

Some of the best ways of optimising a website for Google have been highlighted in a post on the Inside AdSense blog.

Ambroise Fensterbank, search quality evaluator at Google, said that a number of good practices can help to get sites higher up search rankings.

These include avoiding search engine optimisation techniques that give the impression of being able to boost listings in a very short period, as these are likely to violate Google's guidelines, he noted.

Monitoring the quality of outgoing links and backlinks can also help, as can making use of a clear website hierarchy and making good use of title and alt tags to improve website usability, Mr Fensterbank stated.

"Design your site with your users in mind and be patient and consistent in your efforts," he commented.

"To attract quality backlinks and develop your optimisation strategy, it's important to keep a clear structure for your pages and regularly add organic content."

Roger Park of Yahoo! recently advised marketers on the best ways to turn click-throughs into conversions, including creating a clear website structure and making sure landing pages offer the information that a prospective customer wants.ADNFCR-1679-ID-18682940-ADNFCR
