Top SEO tips from Google engineer
24/06/2008
Google engineer and blogger Matt Cutts has offered his top tips for those looking to boost search engine optimisation (SEO).
Speaking to USA Today, Mr Cutts emphasised the importance of making sure relevant keywords appear somewhere on the site to make it easier to find for web users.
However, he urged website owners to refrain from the practice of inserting too many keywords into their pages, as this can result in Google removing the offending site from its index.
In addition, Mr Cutts stressed that engaging, relevant content can also help significantly.
"If I'm a plumber in Iowa, I may want to write about some of the strange things that happen to me on the job, or the five most common ways to fix a toilet. That kind of content can get really popular and it's a great way to get links," he remarked.
Expert Julie Batten recently wrote on the ClickZ blog that keyword research is one of the most important SEO tasks an online marketer can carry out.
