Marketers given video optimisation advice

There are a number of ways in which businesses can optimise online video to improve search rankings, according to one expert.

Nancy Cruickshank, chief executive of VideoJug, told a recent event held by the Association of Online Publishers that marketers should look to boost the search optimisation of web video content by looking at the requirements of specific engines.

For example, creating a video site map could improve Google listings by allowing the search engine to access content and metadata that will enable it to add the footage to the Google Video Index, she explained.

Furthermore, search engines like blinkx can look at the audio channels of videos, meaning that keywords should appear in the clip itself, Ms Cruickshank said, adding that allowing users to score videos can also help search rankings.

A recent report from Enders Analysis suggested that the growing popularity of online video could help online advertising spending to overtake that on TV marketing.ADNFCR-1679-ID-18650341-ADNFCR
